Microstrategy BI Architecture – Schema

The MetaData is a repository where all the information about the project will be stored. It acts as an interface between user and microstrategy objects(reports etc). While creating a new project new project definition ,parameters and schema has to be populated to metadata. This information will be the base for all other objects for teh project.

Schema objects are logical objects that relate application objects to objects from data warehouse.

The basic schema objects that are the foundation of a microstrategy project are –

1. Tables – objects that relates physical tables

2. Facts – aggregatable measures

3. Attributes – to relate non fact data that is stored in the data warehouse

4. Hierarchies – Logical objects that enable to group attributes which will reflect the relationship and will provide easy drilling etc.
